Sporting dance

Building on the success of The Pitch (Big Dance 2010), English National Ballet developed their partnership with London Broncos Rugby League Foundation (previously Harlequins Rugby League Foundation) to produce Sporting Dance; bringing together the worlds of rugby league and ballet, to explore the notion of ‘peak performance’.

Young people from across West London were put to the test, working alongside professional dancers and rugby players, to experience the parallels in training techniques – both in the dance studio and on the pitch.

The project culminated with a powerful dance work inspired by the true grit needed to be a peak performer, performed on the pitch at the Stoop during a Bronco’s Rugby League match against Leeds Rhinos on Saturday 30 June.

English National Ballet would like to thank all of the young participants who were involved in the project – your effort, both on and off the pitch, helped make the project a success.

Sporting Dance was an extension of The Pitch, a project that was part of Big Dance 2010.
