This class is a fun step by step guide, covering basic ballet positions and movements that will help you to improve your posture, co-ordination and strength.

What to expect from this Introduction to Ballet course?
Over the 11 week course, you will be introduced to the fundamentals of ballet, focusing on posture and technique accompanied by a live musician to help understanding of musicality and timings.
Each movement will be given detailed explanation and demonstration, as you learn the sensation of the movements. To get the most out of this class we encourage you to practice and repeat the technique outside of class time to embed the learning.

This course resets every term and dancers are welcome to repeat the course if they choose or move up to Beginner Level.

Over the 11 week course, you will be introduced to the fundamentals of ballet, focussing on posture and technique accompanied by a live musician to help understanding of musicality and timings.
Elements covered across the 11 weeks:
- Ballet studio etiquette
- Ballet posture, concept of of “pull up”, “turn out” and parallel
- Demi plie in first (at barre and centre)
- Tendu in first (at barre and centre)
- Port de bras
- Passé
- Relevé
- Ways of taking your foot off the floor – brushes, springs and flicks
- Ronde de jambe
- Concepts of en dehors/en dedans movements
- Concepts of 3 directions en croix (front, side, back)
- Développé
- Attitude
- Battements including fondus, frappé, jetès, glissés. degagès
- Grand battements
- Introduction to head spotting
- Introduction to jumping
Approximately 50 – 55mins of each class will take place at the barre, moving into centre for the last 15 – 20mins.

Our classes at the Mulryan Centre for Dance are open to anyone aged over 18 and there is no upper age limit.
Please wear comfortable clothing that you can move easily in. Class will be taken in barefoot or in soft ballet shoes – no soft blocks, socks or pointe shoes are permitted. We recommend that those with long hair secure it away from your face.
No jewellery should be worn in any class: please remove it before entering the studio.
No street shoes are to be worn in the studio either.

Refunds and exchanges are not permitted except where events or classes are cancelled or abandoned by English National Ballet when less than half the event or session has taken place.*
We regret we do not offer class swaps or credit for missed classes. This applied to both drop-in and termly enrolled bookers.
