A statement from English National Ballet on the passing of our former Chairman, Justin Bickle.

We were devastated to learn that our former Chairman, Justin Bickle, has recently passed away.

Justin’s huge contribution to English National Ballet was fundamental in securing the company’s success today. He supported the company in numerous ways, and across many years, including as English National Ballet’s Chairman from 2013 to 2018.

During his tenure as Chairman, Justin oversaw many accomplishments, perhaps none more so than the Company’s move from Markova House in South Kensington to our new purpose-built home on London City Island in East London. His energy, passion and commitment to ENB helped ensure the company gained a reputation as one of the world’s most dynamic ballet companies, connecting with audiences both in the UK and around the world. He leaves a significant legacy.

Justin’s generosity and support are something I will remain eternally grateful for. The loyalty and guidance he offered, particularly at the start of my term as Artistic Director, is something I will never forget. It is with profound sadness that we learn of his tragic passing.
Tamara Rojo, Artistic Director
Justin was instrumental in some of ENB’s greatest achievements. His personal energy and commitment were legendary. It was thanks to his vision and under his leadership, that our home at London City Island became an idea, and then a project and then a reality. His is a wonderful legacy.
Patrick Harrison, Executive Director

He will be greatly missed and our thoughts and condolences are with his family at this extremely difficult time.
