Ed Vaizey at Dancing on Parliament
London 2012

English National Ballet is planning to celebrate London 2012 with several exciting projects. First, English National Ballet is the West London hub of Big Dance, which sees dance events in unusual places throughout the city - shops, parks, galleries and museums - showcasing the diversity of dance styles in spaces across the capital. Big Dance 2010 saw events as diverse as Dancing on Parliament, placing dance at the forefront of the political agenda; Big Dance at the Stoop, with Harlequins Rugby League and 100 Richmond children; and Physical Ballet where ballet met Parkour. Big Dance in 2012 promises to be even bigger and better, with more than 3 million people participating in a Big Dance event.

Secondly, English National Ballet will collaborate with Scottish Ballet and National Dance Company Wales in a project to be performed in Glasgow, Cardiff and London, using public spaces to bring dance to a new and wider audience. This collaboration sees the three national dance companies of Great Britain coming together as a 'team' to create something genuinely new and original, using the Olympic ideals of 'faster, higher, stronger' which are as relevant to dance as to sport.

Other Olympic projects include a Summer season at the London Coliseum and a potential collaboration with physical theatre companies Legs on the Wall and Motionhouse. 2012 promises to be an exciting year!
