, official School of English National Ballet is a specialist training centre for aspiring and highly talented young ballet dancers aged 16 to 19. We transform talented young dancers into world-class performers over a three year programme validated by Trinity College, London.
The School was founded in 1988 by English National Ballet to train students for a professional career in dance. Today the School exists as a separate entity but maintains strong links with its parent company, sharing its commitment to excellence and access. We are a talent-led organisation and each year 300 young dancers audition for one of thirty places in the first year. Once a young dancer joins, they have an incredibly bright future.
Our graduate employment rate is 90% with our dancers joining English National Ballet and other prestigious ballet companies worldwide. Currently a third of the dancers at English National Ballet are graduates of the School.
We are highly respected in the field for our training and pastoral care. We are regarded as an 'exemplary provider' by Trinity College London and have been awarded Outstanding by Ofsted. We continue to be the only Dance Specialist Dance and Drama Award school to consistently achieve this grade since inspections began.
"The quality of provision, in all aspects, is outstanding. Teachers provide highly skilled tuition and have excellent contacts with major dance companies. Students value and reflect well on the very high quality advice and guidance they receive from teachers, physiotherapists and staff." Ofsted 2012
In order to produce professional dancers of the highest artistic and technical abilities, our training and curriculum concentrate on a technique and style of dancing required by English National Ballet and the ever increasing choreographic and technical demands of ballet companies around the world.
We provide our students with a carefully structured two year training programme followed by a third year pre-professional programme. The first two years place great emphasis on fundamental core training, and the establishment of classical technique and its purity of line as well as Contemporary and Choreography. In your second year you will have the unique opportunity of performing and touring nationally with our apprentice company and performing in the My First Series of ballets produced by English National Ballet.
Our third year is designed for performance experience and audition preparation. Whilst continuing your study of all the core disciplines, you will also have the opportunity to rehearse, perform and tour with English National Ballet, take classes and receive coaching from eminent guest teachers and dancers, plus learn and perform historical & current repertoire by renowned international choreographers.
Our ambition is to make English National Ballet School the first choice for the next generation of international ballet dancers.
