Court Whispering

In April, we worked with a group of older dancers from Open Age Westminster , in collaboration with Historic Royal Palaces to create Court Whispering; a site specific piece inspired by their interpretation of the life of the Georgians, created for an exclusive performance event in the magnificent surroundings Banqueting House, Whitehall.

This new choreography was based on the court interactions and communication of the Georgian era, and energised the building with music, dance and echoes of an earlier time when it played host to court masques and entertainments. Choreographed by Chris Tudor, with original music by Chris Swithinbank, the piece explores the nature or aristocratic customs, the symbolic language of fans and the juxtaposition of humour and pageantry seen in traditional court dances.

We are delighted to announce that Court Whispering will be performed again at Sadler’s Wells Elixir Festival by dancers from English National Ballet’s Open Age group this September. Elixir Festival is a four day festival, celebrating lifelong creativity and the contribution of older artists.

Court Whispering will feature as part of Elixir Extracts, which includes performances by older dancers and companies from across the UK and beyond. This is a fantastic opportunity for dancers from Westminster-based older people’s hub Open Age, to take part in a national dance event celebrating older people and their artistic and creative contributions to art and dance in the UK.

Take a look at the Elixir blog to follow the preparation process for this exclusive event, and book tickets for Elixir Extracts and other activities taking place across the four days at Sadler’s Wells website .

English National Ballet Open Age dancers perform at 16.30, Saturday 13 September 2014

Court Whispering is inspired by The Glorious Georges exhibition at Historic Royal Palaces from April 2014. Visit www.hrp.org.uk for more information.
