Pop Up Performance at Manchester Town Hall
Inspired by, the art of collaboration comes alive in a performance at Manchester Town Hall on 12 February 2014.
English National Ballet’s Associate Artist George Williamson has created choreography to be performed by three Company dancers, Nancy Osbaldeston, Jia Zhang and Joshua McSherry-Gray in the Great Hall, Manchester Town Hall at 1.30pm and 2.30pm on Wednesday 12 February.
Inspired by the winning poem from an online poetry competition in partnership with The Poetry Society, the performance coincides with the last leg of the national tour of Le Corsaire. To reflect the multi-authoring and collaborations of art forms within Le Corsaire, this project includes collaboration with partners across art forms. Music is created by students at the Royal Northern College of Music and performed by a saxophone quartet and costumes are designed by a student from Istituto Marangoni.
The winning poem:
Look what the sea dragged in,
rugged and salt-cheeked like a bit of weathered glass.
All the ladies love a pirate. All the pirate loves
is the lady with limbs like fireworks,
throwing herself from shape to shape as though made of light.
If sold, she’ll slip your fist before you touch her;
if bought, she’ll call her pirate king to save her;
and storms will send them skipping over waves, unchained,
her hair still, somehow, full of flowers.
