Big Dance Week 2012 culminated in a mass-participatory performance on an incredible scale at one of the world’s most iconic and famous locations. More than one thousand dancers came together among the famous fountains of Trafalgar Square to perform a new work created by the highly-acclaimed choreographer Wayne McGregor.
There was, understandably, a huge amount of enthusiasm for this project, from participants and audiences alike. Dancers from across London and beyond rehearsed for many weeks leading up to the spectacular performance, which was a truly inspiring celebration of dance and a fitting close to Big Dance 2012.
As a flagship event of Big Dance 2012, it generated much interest from the public and the media, and was featured prominently in Big Dance 2012, broadcast by Channel 4. This programme can be viewed at
English National Ballet would like to thank the participants from West London who took part, as well as the team at Wayne McGregor | Random Dance, for overseeing the logistical challenge of bringing such a huge number of dancers together for a performance in such a fantastic location.
The only problem now is how to top such a breathtaking event for Big Dance 2014…
