In the stunning setting of the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich, English National Ballet, in partnership with Greenwich Dance, presented five consecutive days of dance performances and workshops to suit people of all tastes and levels of experience.
From the Professional Masterclass Day, which gave an opportunity for experienced dancers to hone their skills, to the Schools’ Showcase, which provided a platform for school pupils to dance in a professional environment, there was something to appeal to everyone.
Two dance shows, entitled Cabaret Under Canvas, featured a wide range of dance performances, spanning classical ballet (courtesy of English National Ballet), contemporary pieces, performance art, youth groups, light-hearted cabaret acts and international visiting artists, and were hosted by William Trevitt and Michael Nunn, Artistic Directors of Balletboyz.
"The cabaret format was a great way to showcase contemporary dance […] and make the new companies well-known to a general audience."
"Cabaret Under Canvas Thought it was well executed. Liked the combination of dance styles, comedy and variety acts."
"If you are not used to going to watch (contemporary) dance it can be quite intimidating and perceived as a risk because you have to pay a lot of money. The cabaret showcasing idea was a brilliant way around this as a ‘taster'."
