Cinderella

Cinderella

English National Ballet’s Cinderella tells everyone’s favourite rags-to-riches story.

Cinderella is tormented by her spiteful stepsisters and longs to attend the Prince’s glamorous ball. Her Fairy Godmother intervenes and transforms her into a glittering Princess who shall go to the ball. Prokofiev’s uplifting score played by English National Ballet’s symphony orchestra together with David Walker’s sumptuous costumes and sets conjure up the fairy tale world of Cinderella perfectly.

Cinderella is one of the first ballets I learnt directly from the choreographer, so even though the part of Cinderella is really hard it is very special to me – I feel I can deliver the character exactly as it was meant to be realised”

60 Years... of Cinderella
Cinderella as a full-evening ballet entered English National Ballet’s repertoire in 1973 in a production mounted by Ben Stevenson, a former dancer with the Company.

A second, highly acclaimed production by Michael Corder was specially created for the dancers in 1996, and launched Corder’s association with the Company. This production went on to win both the 'Lawrence Olivier Award for Best Dance Production' and the 'Evening Standard Award for Outstanding Production in Dance.'

This year's revival of Cinderella heralds the Company's return to the Coliseum for its Summer season, and the 60th birthday party celebrations on the 14th August - the Company's official birthday.
