National Dance Awards 2008

English National Ballet is delighted to announce two wins at the Critics' Circle National Dance Awards 2008; the award for Outstanding Company, and Senior Principal Agnes Oaks wins the acclaimed Best Female Dancer award.


The Ninth Annual Critics’ Circle National Dance Awards, were hosted by Channel 4’s favourite dance presenters The Balletboyz, at Sadler’s Wells on Monday January 26th at 1.30pm. This is the only professional awards ceremony in the UK dedicated to dance and highlights the huge range of dance on offer in the UK.

Patron of the Awards, Dame Beryl Grey says: “This year’s nominations demonstrate the scale and diversity of dance in this country and the contribution of exciting visitors to our shores from Russia and China. The amazing success of these awards over the last nine years has confirmed the huge and ever-increasing popularity of dance in the UK.”

English National Ballet collected six nominations for the awards in the following categories;

Richard Sherrington Award for Best Female Dancer, Agnes Oaks Winner
Best Choreography (Classical), Wayne Eagling for Resolution
Spotlight Award Female Artist (Classical), Laura Bruna, Begona Cao
Spotlight Award Male Artist (Classical), Esteban Berlanga
Dance Europe Award for OUtstanding Company, English National Ballet Winner

John Talbot, English National Ballet's Chairman said "It was tremendous for English National Ballet to be voted as Outstanding Company and for Agnes to receive the Richard Sherrington Award for Best Female Dancer. It is also great for the Company's reputation... to have received the very well deserved nominations."
