Mouse-handlers October
October 2007

Venues are flying by now. Since we took the show to Sunderland andhad our first taste of putting it up on our own, we are now settlinginto a routine and all the crew are comfortable doing their own dutiesautomatically. It’s great to see the guys working the get-in andget-out, we all seem to know what needs to be done and when to do it.

The show, is great we can get out quite early, yes there areadvantages to touring a show that has early start times. Still, threeperformances a day, on a Saturday and Sunday, still manage to be verytiring, even if it is a short show.

Oxford and Tunbridge Wells are great, Tunbridge is pretty much fullfor 5 shows and that creates a buzz back stage with everyone, get usedto it guys, the theatres are selling really well.

Grimsby, hmmm, this is an interesting one. The venue is a concerthall, with no flying. It’s our first experience of attaching the showto one big truss, then flying it all out as one. I’m pleasantlysurprised at how it all works and at the end of the fit-up day, itlooks nice from the front. The first show isn’t without it’s panics. The dressers have not been booked, we find out less than an hour beforecurtain up. This sends wardrobe into a small amount of chaos. Dressersare press ganged from the crew and people are helping with costumes andmouse heads left right and centre. It’s a bit crazy but it works, notsomething we want do regularly though. The next day we have ourdressers!

At York, we have a day off, which is very, very nice. Blackpool(nearly everyone enjoys a day at the pleasure beach, I go down with acold so miss out), Birmingham and Woking, then home! The crew all takethe opportunity to catch up and rest. And so to Manchester Opera House.A wonderful theatre and our 50th show! Not bad hey?!

The Naming Of Things.
If your familiar with the musical, Cats, then you know that it’sbased around how the cats get their names. Well, we have also started anaming process, no, I’m not sure exactly why, but so far we have,

Bob – the first red curtain
Shrub – the first woodland gauze used in act II
Bush – the second gauze
Alice – the glitter drop used in the finale
Tracy – a big tin that contains bits and pieces including toilet roll, paper towels, crew t shirts.
Kelly – the big case that contains all our props
