Angelina's Star Performance story |
Angelina has been invited to the Palace to put on her very first ballet, The Sleeping Beauty.
Act I
Angelina arrives at the Palace with Miss Lilly, Alice, Henry and William – they are all very excited!
Angelina and Alice look longingly at the picture of the Queen and Angelina finds a crown that she can’t resist trying on. When the Queen and Princess Valentine enter the room Angelina is dancing with the crown. Angelina realises the Queen and the Princess are watching her and is a bit embarrassed, but then Phoebe tumbles in, and captures everyone’s attention by knocking the crown off Angelina’s head and cheekily putting it on herself.
Miss Lilly and the Queen introduce all the mice to each other. Angelina, Alice, William and Valentine go off to begin rehearsals, meanwhile Phoebe goes the other way looking very mischievous.
Henry explores the Palace, but he gets the sense that he’s being followed. Suddenly he finds himself face to face with a ghost! Poor Henry is shocked and his heart beats very fast, but when the ghost helps him up he realises that it’s just Phoebe. Henry thinks this is very funny, and sets off with Phoebe in search of someone else to scare.
Angelina is giving each of her friends a role for the ballet: Angelina will be Aurora, the Sleeping Beauty. Alice is the Lilac Fairy, William is the Prince and Valentine is the Carnation Fairy. As they start rehearsals, the mice try out their ballet moves for the first time, but when Valentine dances they can’t believe it – she’s the worst dancer ever!
Angelina tries to help Valentine to learn her steps while everyone else practises. But while Angelina and Valentine are concentrating, Henry and Phoebe are jumping out and scaring the others. They scamper off laughing and Angelina and Valentine wonder where on earth everyone has gone.
Angelina has had enough, and she orders a run through of the performance. They all take their places, but… it’s a disaster! Oh dear, Angelina is cross because the run through didn’t go well. Everyone else is cross because they think Angelina hasn’t had any time for them. They have had enough and they leave Angelina all on her own – she feels terrible and she’s so worried about the show that she bursts into tears.
Suddenly, Angelina hears crying from somewhere else. It’s Valentine and she’s upset too. Angelina comforts Valentine and realises that the show must go on! She calls the others and says sorry for getting cross with them, and they all make friends. It’s time for the last rehearsal. Everyone is ready, even Henry and Phoebe!
Act II
The Queen makes a grand entrance to see the performance, and takes her seat in the royal box. The performance begins with the Christening of baby Aurora. The Lilac Fairy and Daisy Fairy present gifts but the evil Carabosse turns up and declares a curse on the Princess.
Years later it’s Princess Aurora’s birthday and she is to choose a husband. Four suitors try to impress her with gifts– a necklace, a bracelet and a bow. The fourth is Carabosse in disguise who gives her a spinning wheel. Aurora pricks her finger on the spindle of the spinning wheel and Carabosse is triumphant. Aurora and her entire kingdom fall asleep.
The Prince is hunting on his horse in the forest when he meets the Lilac Fairy. She shows him a vision of the beautiful Princess Aurora and he falls in love. The Prince hacks his way through the forest to find the beautiful Princess, defeating Carabosse on his way. When he finds Aurora, she is fast asleep, and he can’t wake her up. The Lilac Fairy tells him to kiss her, and when he does she wakes up and falls in love at first sight.
There is a big celebration as the Prince and Princess are married. Now it is time for Valentine as the Carnation Fairy to dance. Valentine is nervous, so Angelina, as Princess Aurora, dances with her.
The performance is a triumph, and everyone is very happy. The Queen is joined by Miss Lilly on the stage and they congratulate Angelina on a fantastic show.
