• About us

English National Ballet is one of the world’s great ballet companies, which celebrated its 60th year in 2010. The original vision - to take classical ballet of the highest quality to the widest geographical audience, at a price everyone can afford - remains the cornerstone of the Company’s philosophy today. The Company of 67 dancers and full orchestra performs large scale, high quality classical ballet nationally and internationally, presenting the same scale and excellence on tour as in London.

The Company performs to an average of 200,000 people annually, and reaches hundreds of thousands more through its learning and outreach activities, broadcast, news, digital media and partnerships.

Our artistic vision encompasses narrative classical works, including heritage productions; new commissions from contemporary classical choreographers; innovative learning and outreach activities; and celebrating the heritage and talent of the dancers. The Company has a strong reputation for creating new works and reinforces its accessibility by presenting these in proscenium arch theatres and, uniquely, in-the-round.

The Company is renowned for its performances in-the-round at the Royal Albert Hall but also performs on a much smaller scale including at festivals such as Camp Bestival, Latitude and Bestival. English National Ballet performs the classics such as Swan Lake and The Nutcracker, modern classics such as The Snow Queen and Alice in Wonderland, and mixed programmes which include commissions and acquisitions.

We have a strong audience development imperative, evidenced by a successful national marketing and PR strategy and a forward-thinking learning and outreach programme that brings our work alive for all sectors of the community, inspiring and enriching people’s lives. Affordable pricing for our performances is key and ensures that we continue to develop new audiences, maintaining an enthusiastic and dedicated following for our work.

The Company continues to develop a large, enthusiastic and dedicated following through developing an original and popular repertoire; touring; reinvigorating the classics; engaging classical choreographers; keeping prices accessible; learning and outreach partnerships; and creating relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders.
